My setting of The Lord’s Prayer was originally for a solo voice and piano. It started as a compositional assignment back at Saint Olaf College and one of my classmates asked if she could sing my setting for a wedding that summer. I of course was flattered, and the piece then began to be heard here and there as time went on. Although I always liked the solo voice setting (singing it a few times myself), I felt that the piece could have a greater impact as a treble selection. Accessible to young voices in a treble or boy choir, but also a great addition to high school or collegiate women’s choruses, or the women of an adult church choir as something to “have in there back pocket, just in case.” I hope you enjoy this setting as much as I enjoyed writing it, with its twists and turns through a bit of non-traditional harmonic progressions.

Text
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.
