Each year, CORO works with emerging vocal artists and choral scholars to guide them in pursuing a career in the professional choral field. Young Artists typically are vocal performance and music education majors currently pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degrees with minimal or no professional choral experience.
Since 2018, our young artist program has served pre-professional vocal artists each summer. In residency for the Des Moines Choral Festival these past six years, each summer our young artists have sung in multiple concerts, worked with the CORO Vocal Artists in concerts and in masterclass sessions, and prepared themselves to successfully join the professional choral world in the United States. As CORO looks to the future, we are excited to revamp the young artist program with additional time devoted to individual training.
CORO is currently creating relationships with professional choral ensembles in order to help our young artists begin to find work in the professional choral field. These relationships will provide in-person audition opportunities for our young artists, invitations for artistic directors to work with our ensemble during CORO residencies, and provide additional services to support young artists in their audition process.
